"These are real collector's items," says Proudfoot. "They are sold for between £20 000 and £30 000 at Sotheby's." Proudfoot admits an abiding fascination for taxidermy.
Tessa Proudfoot's exhibition, including taxidermy animals and antique Louis Vuitton trunks, is on at the Everard Read gallery in Jellicoe Avenue, Johannesburg until August 23.
"I love contrasts and I try to develop an eclectic style for every client by including modern pieces and objects with history. Antiques and collectibles are expensive, but they have an intrinsic value that appreciates by virtue of their history. We approach interiors with heart, soul, body and mind. On the trip Proudfoot became acquainted with Stewart Patterson, an expert on European furniture and antiques, and the collectibles markets. "We went on a week's mad-rush adventure journeying to remote French markets where we sourced amazing pieces for both my clients' home and for my exhibition." Proudfoot came upon the opportunity to collect exotic pieces for an exhibition when she accompanied clients on a buying trip to England and France. "On our trip there was an emphasis on looking for old taxidermy and resurrecting it.

"The reason why I decided to have an exhibition like this is twofold," says Tessa Proudfoot of the show of exquisite artifacts. "Firstly, I have a great passion for collecting beautiful objects that have a decorative value and which are not run-of-the-mill in any way,南京彩色印刷, and secondly, I wanted to do something fantastic that would add value to my business as an interior designer."
"I love to create interiors for their artistic value - interiors, for me, have become a new art form."
What Proudfoot loves about these items is their recyclable value. "There's real beauty in furniture with a patina and stain marks - it's the antithesis of the furniture made new today en masse." "Contrary to what you may think, I don't have a morbid interest in death. I believe that animals are beautiful, even in their preserved state, and animals that have been preserved should be displayed. They shouldn't wind up in some dusty attic." "My clients' home cried out for interesting and unusual objects and furnishings that have a history and a story. We weren't looking for flimsy antiques, rather we were on a hunt for large, chunky pieces with presence and grandness."
Proudfoot's style is to mix modern furniture, with clean lines and an almost industrial look, with antiques and collectibles. 相关的主题文章:
